What happened

Scammers are impersonating traffic violation notifications from AI traffic camera systems by sending fraudulent text messages and links. The fake messages claim that a vehicle has been detected violating traffic laws and issued a fine under the 'penalty on violation' system.

Reported impact

Victims who click the malicious links are directed to spoofed government websites with detailed violation information. Once users enter personal information, bank details, and OTP codes to 'verify' or 'pay the fine online', their bank accounts are compromised and funds are withdrawn within a short period.

Governance controls

The Giao Thủy District Police issued an alert advising that government agencies do not send links requesting users provide card information, OTP codes, or bank account details. Authorities recommend using the official VNeTraffic app to check traffic violations and warned that requesting an OTP is a clear sign of fraud.
