Terms of use
Last updated 7 October 2026
These terms cover use of the AI Incident Index website and dataset.
Dataset licence
The AI Incident Index dataset (v2026.09) is released under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0). You can use, share and adapt it, including commercially, as long as you give attribution.
The data page has the downloads and the exact release.
Attribution
Cite the Index and link to https://www.aiincidentindex.org/data. The data page gives a ready-made citation. Where you reuse a single record, cite its permanent identifier, for example AII-1000-00007.
Third-party material
Records summarise and link to reporting, filings and other material published by others. That material stays under its owners' terms. The licence above covers the Index's own records and write-ups, not the sources they cite.
No warranty
The Index follows a published methodology and records an evidence status for every incident, but it is provided as is, without warranty of any kind. Records can be incomplete or change as evidence develops. Check the sources before relying on a record, and do not treat it as legal advice.
Using the site
- Submissions and corrections must be made in good faith and must not include material you have no right to share.
- Do not use the site in a way that disrupts it or tries to bypass its protections.
- We can reject submissions and change or remove records under the corrections and disputes policy.
Accounts
- An account is optional and is only needed to submit incidents, send corrections or annotations, and save or follow records.
- You sign in with Google, GitHub, LinkedIn or X. Keep that account secure: anything done while you are signed in is treated as yours.
- Use your own identity. Do not create accounts to evade a suspension or to make one person look like several.
- We can suspend or close an account that breaks these terms or the corrections and disputes policy. You can close yours at any time by writing to data@aiincidentindex.org.
- How we handle account data is described in the privacy policy.
