What happened

Police coordinated by Kayseri Cumhuriyet Başsavcılığı conducted technical and physical surveillance and raids across six provinces (Kayseri, Istanbul, Şanlıurfa, Gaziantep, Kahramanmaraş, and Hatay) after determining that driving license exam applicants were using AI-generated fake identity documents to pass tests.

The scheme involved applicants creating composite photographs using AI applications that combined their own faces with the faces of other people, then submitting these composite images on Turkish identity cards to bypass exam security systems and fraudulently obtain driving licenses.

Reported impact

Twenty suspects were detained across the six provinces. Fifteen suspects were arraigned and imprisoned on charges of violating Law 6114 on Selection and Placement Center Services and forging official documents. Five suspects were released on bail pending trial.
