Xiaomi Recalls 116,887 SU7 EVs for Assisted Driving Software Flaw
Xiaomi recalled over 116,000 SU7 sedans to fix a software flaw in its Highway Pilot assisted driving system that resulted in insufficient early warnings in certain scenarios. The recall followed a fatal crash in March where a SU7 caught fire after the driver took control from the system.
What happened
Xiaomi recalled 116,887 standard versions of its SU7 sedan produced between February 2024 and August 2025 to address a software issue in the level 2 Highway Pilot assisted driving feature.
The State Administration for Market Regulation stated that when the system is turned on, there may be insufficient early warnings or performance in extreme special scenarios. Xiaomi issued an over-the-air software update on Friday to address the problem.
Reported impact
A SU7 sedan with the Highway Pilot system caught fire in March after hitting a cement pole at 97 kph seconds after the driver took over control from the system, though Xiaomi stated the system had issued a warning of obstacles ahead.
Index analysis
The recall is the second software fix under product-safety rules since the SU7 model launched in 2024. Over-the-air updates in China related to autonomous driving require regulatory approval to prevent automakers from concealing defects or avoiding liability.
Governance controls
China released draft safety rules on Wednesday for vehicles with level 2 automation, set to be effective from 2027.
