Tesla Cybertruck FSD crash into pole in Reno, Nevada
A Tesla Cybertruck operating on Full Self-Driving version 13.2.4 crashed into a curb and utility pole in Reno, Nevada on February 9, 2025, after the system failed to merge out of a lane that was ending. The driver was uninjured, though the incident raises concerns about the reliability of the autonomous driving system.
What happened
On February 9, 2025, a Tesla Cybertruck operating on Full Self-Driving version 13.2.4 crashed while traveling northbound on Stead Boulevard near the Sierra Sage Golf Course in Reno, Nevada. The vehicle was in the far right lane, which merges into the center lane to make way for a signaled crosswalk.
The FSD system failed to perform the merge even though no other vehicles were present in the adjacent lane. Instead of slowing down or turning, the Cybertruck drove straight onto the curb island and struck both the curb and a utility pole.
Reported impact
The Cybertruck owner, Jonathan Challinger, reported that he walked away from the crash without any injuries. The crash occurred on an isolated curb island engineered to separate pedestrians from vehicular traffic, and the crosswalk was empty at the time.
Index analysis
The FSD system failed to execute a basic lane merge on a multi-lane road with no other traffic present. The active safety systems of the Cybertruck did not intervene to prevent the collision.
