Terrorism suspects used ChatGPT and YouTube for bomb-making in Red Fort blast

According to an NIA chargesheet filed in May 2026, accused persons linked to Al-Qaida used ChatGPT and YouTube to research how to make rockets and improvised explosive devices (IEDs) in connection with a November 2025 Red Fort blast that killed 11 people. The chargesheet details how one accused, Jasir Bilal Wani, allegedly emerged as the "in-house engineer" of a terror module and tested rocket IEDs in Kashmir forests.

What happened

An NIA chargesheet filed on May 14, 2026, in connection with a high-intensity vehicle-borne IED blast near Delhi's Red Fort on November 10, 2025, alleged that one of the accused used ChatGPT and YouTube to research how to make rockets and in what proportions the mixture should be.

The accused, Jasir Bilal Wani, allegedly emerged as the 'in-house engineer' of the Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind (AGuH) interim terror module linked to Al-Qaida in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS), and tested rocket IEDs in the Qazigund forest in Anantnag district, Jammu and Kashmir.

Dr Adeel Ahmed Rather, employed at Al Falah University in Faridabad, Haryana, allegedly supplied IED ingredients including powdered sugar and potassium nitrate in the form of NPK fertiliser to Jasir, while Dr Umer un Nabi served as the alleged driver of the explosive-laden car used in the blast.

Reported impact

The blast killed 11 people and injured several others, according to the chargesheet.

Index analysis

The chargesheet describes what officials termed a meticulous and 'almost laboratory-grade' approach adopted by the accused for fabricating and using IEDs.

Three doctors employed at Al Falah University were found to be involved in the blast case, with Jasir staying at the university campus on two to three occasions during 2024-25 to provide 'technical support' for the conspiracy.
