Students use AI to create and sell non-consensual intimate images
Students at two secondary schools affiliated with the University of Buenos Aires reportedly used AI image generation to create and sell non-consensual intimate images of female classmates. Around 40 female students aged 14 were affected by the scheme, which involved both AI-manipulated images and intimate photographs taken from social media. Schools activated support protocols, though no formal complaint had been filed with authorities.
What happened
A group of students from Colegio Nacional de Buenos Aires (CNBA) and Escuela Superior de Comercio Carlos Pellegrini, secondary schools under the Universidad de Buenos Aires, created and distributed intimate images of female classmates using AI image generation. Eight students, primarily aged 13 to 14, created a WhatsApp group to share AI-manipulated images and intimate photographs of their classmates, most of whom were from the same division or known personally to the perpetrators.
The students sold the images for 1,000 pesos for ten photos. According to reports, the group included both buyers and sellers from both schools. A threatening message written on a school bench stated: 'Ustedes nos pueden delatar, pero no vamos a parar de desnudarlas y venderlas' (You can report us, but we are not going to stop undressing and selling them).
Reported impact
Female students aged approximately 14 learned of the material when they discovered a shared drive containing their names, photos, and the prices at which they were being sold. Around 40 students were reportedly affected, though many victims did not report the incident to their families or authorities.
Upon returning to school on Monday, June 29, female students refused to share classes with the accused perpetrators. Students engaged in protests and sit-ins to demand intervention from authorities. According to reports, students explicitly requested that the accused be separated from their classes or expelled.
Governance controls
Both schools issued statements repudiating the incident and stated they activated corresponding protocols. CNBA opened channels for listening and accompaniment through its Gender Office and Healthy Relationships Promotion, along with school counselors and student services to receive information and provide dialogue and containment.
According to reports, no formal complaint had been filed with authorities as of the reporting date, with some victims hesitant to inform their families.
