Mississippi teacher charged with AI-generated child sexual abuse material
Wilson Jones, a 30-year-old teacher at Corinth Middle School in Mississippi, was arrested and charged with using an AI program to generate sexual abuse material featuring eight students aged 14-16. The school detected the activity in November 2024, and Jones resigned before the matter was reported to authorities.
What happened
Wilson Jones, a 30-year-old teacher at Corinth Middle School in Mississippi, allegedly used an AI program to generate child sexual abuse material featuring eight former and current students aged 14 to 16. The videos depicted the students engaging in inappropriate behavior including kissing and exposing themselves.
The school's monitoring system detected suspicious activity on Jones' school-issued computer on November 19, 2024, flagged as 'sexual.' After reviewing the material, Principal Chris Killough met with Jones, who admitted creating videos using AI but claimed they were not sexual. Jones also allegedly had stored on his computer screenshots containing email user names and passwords of students no longer at the school for no legitimate reason.
Reported impact
None of the eight students whose images were used were aware of the videos. The incident exposed the students to abuse of their identities and images.
Index analysis
The AI system was used to generate sexually explicit imagery of minors by digitally altering or morphing images of real students. Jones allegedly entered specific prompts instructing the system to generate progressively explicit content, including commands to have subjects 'disrobe' and 'explore one another.'
Governance controls
The school's monitoring system detected the activity and the principal initiated a meeting with Jones. The school waited two months before informing the Mississippi Department of Education, which then waited another month before alerting local police. Jones resigned on November 21, 2024, one day after his meeting with the principal.
