Mississippi teacher arrested for AI-generated child sexual abuse material of students
A 30-year-old educator at Corinth School District in Mississippi was arrested after authorities discovered he allegedly used AI to generate sexual videos depicting students aged 14-16, using their images from social media without consent. The discovery was made through the school's content-scanning system in November 2024, and he was charged with production and possession of morphed child sexual abuse material.
What happened
The Corinth School District's content-scanning system alerted administrators on or before November 19, 2024, to illicit content on a school computer belonging to Wilson Jones, a 30-year-old teacher. Jones allegedly used AI to generate videos depicting students aged 14 to 16 in sexual acts, using images of the students obtained from social media.
Jones admitted to using AI to generate videos but claimed the content was not sexual, according to an FBI affidavit. The Mississippi Department of Education received the report on January 29, 2024, and notified Corinth Police on February 26, 2024. A search warrant was executed on March 3, 2024, and authorities seized a laptop and thumb drive. Jones resigned on November 21, 2024.
Reported impact
Police stated that the images were AI-generated and that the students never willingly produced any images or knew that their pictures were being manipulated. The students depicted in the videos ranged from 14 to 16 years old.
Governance controls
The Corinth School District uses an application to scan its computers for illicit content and alert administrators when something is found. The school district investigated the complaint, took action, and reported the matter to the Mississippi Department of Education Office of Educator Misconduct as required.
