Minor in Palma arrested for creating and sharing deepfake nudes of classmates
Spanish police arrested a minor in Palma de Mallorca for allegedly using AI to generate synthetic nude images of five female classmates based on their clothed social media photos and distributing them online. The case is being treated as child sexual abuse material production and referred to the juvenile prosecutor's office.
What happened
National Police in Palma arrested a minor accused of downloading clothed photographs of five female classmates from their public social media accounts and using an AI application to generate artificial nude images of them with high visual realism.
The artificial images were then distributed, reportedly shared on social media. According to police, family members of the victims had to examine the images multiple times and look closely to realize they were fabricated, as they appeared real at first glance.
Investigators identified the perpetrator as a schoolmate of the same age as the victims. The case was classified as child sexual abuse material production and the minor was charged with corruption of minors.
Reported impact
Five minor victims discovered that artificial nude images purporting to depict them were being distributed. The images caused sufficient concern that families reported the matter to police.
Index analysis
According to Spanish law cited by police, any material depicting a person appearing to be a minor in sexually explicit conduct, real or simulated, or depicting their sexual organs for primarily sexual purposes, constitutes child sexual abuse material.
