Man charged with distributing AI-generated deepfake posters of Queensland women
A 52-year-old man in Queensland was charged with creating and distributing AI-generated deepfake posters depicting eight women in explicit sexual scenarios, alongside their personal and professional details. The posters were distributed in public places over five years with the stated intent to humiliate and degrade the victims.
What happened
A 52-year-old man from Cleveland, Queensland, was charged with 43 offences including 27 counts of distributing intimate images and six counts of stalking in connection with AI-generated posters distributed across south-east Queensland over five years.
The posters allegedly featured victims' faces superimposed onto images of women performing explicit sexual acts, alongside their full names, social media usernames and employment details, with false claims identifying them as sex workers.
Police launched an investigation after being notified of posters displayed at various locations including a public venue in Gatton in May 2026. A search warrant executed at a Cleveland address in July 2026 seized electronic devices, printers and pre-prepared AI-generated posters.
Reported impact
Eight victims aged between 40 and 60 from across south-east Queensland suburbs were identified, with posters found in public toilet blocks across locations as far apart as Hervey Bay and western Queensland.
Police stated that victims had been subjected to 'deeply distressing and highly personal attacks' and that the intention was to 'publicly humiliate and degrade' them.
Index analysis
The case represents an application of AI image generation technology to create non-consensual intimate imagery for purposes of public harassment and humiliation over an extended period.
Governance controls
Queensland Police stated that 'artificial intelligence is an emerging technology but using it to create and distribute abusive or degrading material is not beyond the reach of police' and committed to investigating such matters and holding offenders to account.
