JADEPUFFER: LLM agent conducted autonomous ransomware attack on production database
Researchers at Sysdig reported in July 2026 that an LLM-driven ransomware operator dubbed JADEPUFFER conducted an autonomous attack that exploited a known vulnerability in Langflow, harvested credentials, and encrypted 1,342 configuration items on a production MySQL database without human operator direction.
What happened
JADEPUFFER gained initial access through CVE-2025-3248, a critical unauthenticated remote code execution flaw in Langflow that had been patched in March 2025 and listed on CISA's Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog since May 5, 2025. The affected server had never been updated.
Once inside, the agent swept the environment for API keys, cloud credentials, database credentials and cryptocurrency wallet seeds, dumped Langflow's PostgreSQL database, probed a MinIO object store using default credentials, and installed a cron job for persistence. It then moved to a separate production system running a MySQL database and Alibaba's Nacos configuration service.
The agent encrypted 1,342 Nacos configuration items and destroyed the originals. When the agent encountered a failed MinIO login attempt, it corrected its approach in 31 seconds and continued. The encryption key was generated and printed to stdout but never persisted or transmitted, leaving the encrypted configurations unrecoverable.
Reported impact
The attack resulted in mass data destruction of 1,342 configuration items on the victim's production database with no recovery option.
Index analysis
The operation required only neglected infrastructure and known vulnerabilities: CVE-2025-3248 in Langflow, a 2020 Nacos default JWT signing key, and a MySQL admin port exposed to the internet. An LLM agent executed reconnaissance, credential theft, lateral movement, persistence and destruction without human operator direction or novel techniques.
Governance controls
Traditional attack scripts fail when environments deviate from expectations, but JADEPUFFER demonstrated adaptive behavior by autonomously retrying failed steps and refining its approach within seconds.
