Israel's Tzayad system identified 850,000 targets in Gaza and Lebanon
Elbit Systems disclosed that its Tzayad targeting system identified 850,000 real-time targets for possible attack across Gaza and Lebanon between October 2023 and end of 2025. A former targeting adviser reportedly questioned whether such volumes of targeting data could be adequately assessed for legal compliance, raising concerns about potential civilian impact.",antml:parameter> <parameter name="event_date">2026-07-06
What happened
Elbit Systems stated that its Tzayad digital army programme identified 850,000 real-time targets across all Israeli military theatres between 7 October 2023 and the end of 2025, representing approximately 1,000 targets per day.
Miki Edelstein, an IDF reservist major general and executive vice-president of Elbit Systems, presented these figures at a land warfare conference organised by the Royal United Services Institute in London in July 2026.
The targets were described as people, vehicles and other objects detected in real time for possible follow-up attack from land, sea or air, including 'an enemy that we are not aware of before' that 'pops up' from underground or by manoeuvre.
Reported impact
According to former senior targeting adviser Wes Bryant cited in reporting, Gaza had a population of 2.2 million people and around 300,000 buildings before October 2023, and the figures suggest the IDF may have targeted 'up to or over half the entire population and infrastructure' of the territory.
Bryant stated it was impossible for soldiers in any military to adequately assess every piece of information at the volumes indicated to determine whether a threat was genuine and whether a target was lawful.
