What happened
A 21-year-old second-year Electronics and Communication Engineering student at IIIT Raipur named Saiyed Rahim Adnan Ali used AI-based image generation and editing tools to create fake explicit images of approximately 36 female students.
After female students filed complaints on October 6, 2025, the institute management searched the student's hostel room and seized his mobile phone, laptop, and pen drive. Police from the Anti-Crime and Cyber Unit and Raipur Police conducted detailed questioning of victims and the accused, who admitted his role during interrogation.
Reported impact
The registrar reported that the incident caused social and psychological harm to the affected students and their families, and caused irreparable damage to the institute's reputation.
As of the police report, there was no evidence that the altered images were distributed or made viral online, and the management had not indicated the images were shared online.
Governance controls
The IIIT Raipur management suspended the student from the institute and formed a committee of female staff to conduct internal investigations into technical aspects and other points separate from the police investigation.
