Hyundai recalls 13,600+ Tucson vehicles in Vietnam for AI collision avoidance software fix

Hyundai recalled over 13,600 Tucson vehicles in Vietnam after the forward-facing camera in its collision avoidance system was found to trigger warnings and automatic braking too sensitively, potentially affecting driving comfort and safety. The manufacturer announced a free software update program starting June 29, 2026.

What happened

Hyundai Th脿nh C么ng Vi峄噒 Nam announced a recall of 13,620 Tucson vehicles manufactured between October 2, 2024 and June 2, 2026 at its Ninh B矛nh factory to update the Front Collision Avoidance (FCA) system software.

The forward-facing camera software on the FCA system was configured with collision risk prediction parameters that were more sensitive than optimal, causing the system to issue warnings and trigger automatic braking earlier than intended in certain traffic situations.

Reported impact

The oversensitive system affected user experience and driving comfort, causing the vehicle to brake abruptly in situations where no clear collision risk existed, potentially increasing the risk of rear-end collisions if following vehicles were too close.

Index analysis

The FCA system is designed to monitor vehicles ahead and detect motorcycles, pedestrians, and cyclists to provide warnings or braking support when needed. The same model experienced similar recalls in other markets: over 500,000 units in North America and approximately 36,500 units in Australia.

Governance controls

Hyundai announced the recall program would commence on June 29, 2026. Software updates will be performed free of charge at authorized Hyundai Th脿nh C么ng dealerships nationwide. This is the second recall of the Tucson model within less than two months, following an earlier May 2026 recall of 3,741 vehicles for dashboard display software issues.
