French Army AI System Used to Generate Child Sexual Abuse Material
A French military officer with no prior criminal record allegedly used the French Ministry of Defence's AI system to generate child sexual abuse material through more than 10,000 requests and also created non-consensual nude images of female colleagues. He was arrested and a judicial investigation was opened against him.
What happened
A 42-year-old soldier based in Moselle allegedly submitted more than 10,000 requests to the French Ministry of Defence AI system to generate images with child sexual abuse material characteristics.
The soldier also used the system to create non-consensual nude images of two female colleagues. He was arrested on 22 July and placed in provisional detention after admitting the facts.
Reported impact
The soldier had solicited photographs with child sexual abuse material characteristics from minors aged 15 on social networks.
Two female colleagues were victimized through non-consensual image generation.
Index analysis
The incident shows the AI system's safety controls failed to prevent generation of illegal content despite the scale of misuseโover 10,000 requestsโsuggesting insufficient safeguards against jailbreak attempts or systematic abuse.
Governance controls
A judicial investigation was opened against the soldier for sexual content offenses including non-consensual synthetic imagery, corruption of a minor, solicitation of images from minors, and possession of child sexual abuse material.
