FDP politician challenges AI-generated satire video
FDP politician Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann reportedly demanded a cease-and-desist order against filmmaker Jan Henrik Stahlberg and the Bremen Film Festival over an AI-generated satire video depicting her in a fabricated talk show appearance. The deepfake video manipulated footage to show her discussing how she sent her husband to fight in Ukraine as a soldier.
What happened
Filmmaker Jan Henrik Stahlberg created an AI-generated satire video called "MuxmΓ€uschenstillX" that was promoted through social media videos created with artificial intelligence.
The video depicted a talk show appearance by FDP politician Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann on Sandra Maischberger's show, using deepfake technology to manipulate her appearance and words. Stahlberg overlaid his own face onto footage of another person to create a fake version of Strack-Zimmermann's husband, and scripted dialogue claiming she had sent her husband to fight in Ukraine as a soldier.
Reported impact
Strack-Zimmermann, chair of the EU Parliament's defence committee, demanded a cease-and-desist order from Stahlberg and the Bremen Film Festival, which had shared the video.
