Dexcom G6 iOS app versions 1.11.2 and 1.12.0 display outdated glucose readings in Spain
Spanish health authorities warned on 23 September 2025 of a malfunction in specific iOS versions of the Dexcom G6 glucose monitoring app that displayed outdated glucose readings, potentially leading users to make incorrect treatment decisions and missing or mismanaging hypoglycemic and hyperglycemic episodes. The company notified patients and healthcare professionals to update the application, which had ceased functioning on 15 September 2025.
What happened
The Agencia Española de Medicamentos y Productos Sanitarios (AEMPS) informed on 23 September 2025 of a malfunction in Dexcom G6 iOS app versions 1.11.2 and 1.12.0 that could display an estimated glucose value that is older than the most recent reading.
The affected versions ceased functioning on 15 September 2025. Dexcom sent a warning notice to patients, caregivers and healthcare professionals about the issue and recommended updating the application.
Reported impact
If users are unaware that the displayed value is not the most recent, they could make incorrect treatment decisions and suffer episodes of hypoglycemia or hyperglycemia, according to the AEMPS.
The malfunction could prevent adequate detection or treatment of hypoglycemic and hyperglycemic episodes.
Index analysis
The Dexcom G6 system is designed to continuously measure glucose levels in interstitial fluid in people over two years old and to replace capillary blood glucose tests for treatment decisions.
Correct interpretation of results should be based on glucose trends and accumulated sensor readings over time, not isolated values.
