What happened

On November 23, a woman's mobile phone was snatched near Tyre Market, Pahari Dheeraj Main Road in north Delhi. The snatcher was captured on CCTV footage but was wearing a mask, preventing immediate identification.

Delhi Police investigators used an AI tool to virtually remove the mask from a screenshot of the CCTV footage video, extracting a blurred picture of the suspect. Using this AI-generated image along with technical surveillance and secret informers, the police identified the suspect as Afnan Ali (23) of Sadar Bazar and apprehended him.

Reported impact

The stolen mobile phone was recovered and the clothes worn by the snatcher during the crime were seized. The interrogation revealed that Afnan Ali had been released from Tihar Jail just seven days before committing this snatching incident.
