What happened

A PCR call was received on February 16 reporting a burglary at a house in Mukherjee Nagar in Northwest Delhi, where gold items were stolen.

Delhi Police analysed CCTV footage and obtained a clear image of the suspect, then used facial recognition system (FRS) technology to identify Imran (28) from Timarpur, a habitual offender with previous involvement in theft.

During interrogation, Imran confessed to the crime and revealed he had sold the stolen jewellery to Sachin Verma (36), a goldsmith, who was subsequently arrested.

Reported impact

Police recovered Rs 5.87 lakh in cash, diamonds and pearls, and stolen articles from the suspects.
