Child sexual abuse discovered after girl questions AI chatbot
A 12-year-old girl in Brazil discovered she could confide in an AI chatbot after questioning whether she was disrupting her aunt's wedding. The girl's query and the AI's supportive response led her family to review her chat history, uncovering that she had been sexually abused by her aunt's 23-year-old fiancé since December 2025.
What happened
A 12-year-old girl in São José dos Pinhais, Paraná, asked a question to the Manus IA chatbot about whether she was disrupting her aunt's wedding. According to reports, the abuses had begun in December 2025 when the girl was 11 years old during a family beach trip.
The AI application responded that responsibility for maintaining family respect and safety belonged to the adult, not the child. After discovering this message, the family found sexual messages sent by the 23-year-old fiancé of the girl's aunt to the child.
Reported impact
The child reportedly told authorities that she was threatened by the perpetrator to prevent her from revealing the abuse. After confrontation by family members, the man was assaulted by bystanders and police were called.
