What happened

Everest Communications, a PR agency, decided in 2022 to train employees in using ChatGPT to improve productivity and client service. The company instructed all employees to use ChatGPT for daily tasks including generating client ideas and creating meeting notes.

According to a BBC report cited by the news article, employees found that using ChatGPT took approximately double the time compared to doing the work without it. Staff spent time writing prompts for the AI tool and then had to review all outputs to check for errors.

Reported impact

The company founder Anurag Garg reported to BBC that the team complained of doubled workload because they were required to use the AI tool. The plan intended to ease work instead made it more difficult for employees.
