ChatGPT-5 Reportedly Helps Rescue Teen from Phosphine Poisoning in Egypt
A man in Egypt reportedly used ChatGPT-5 to provide emergency treatment instructions that he claimed saved his 17-year-old cousin from fatal poisoning. The medical dean and health ministry denied key details of the account.
What happened
According to a Facebook post by Islam Adel, an inspector with Egypt's Commercial Surveillance authority, his 17-year-old cousin Muhammad Yusri ingested a large portion of a 'ghilaa pill' (phosphine tablet) after a family dispute. Islam Adel reported that when the Abunoub Central Hospital refused to admit the patient, he consulted ChatGPT-5, which reportedly recommended paraffin oil to coat the tablet and reduce phosphine gas release.
Islam Adel stated that he obtained paraffin oil from a pharmacy and administered it to his cousin, then took him to Assiut University Hospital's toxicology department. He reported that medical staff initially expressed despair about the case, but he insisted on supportive treatment while following instructions from ChatGPT-5, including administering nine bottles of paraffin oil and respiratory exercises with cardiac support medications.
Islam Adel reported that after 24 critical hours with continuous vomiting but stable vital signs and no acute symptoms, the patient was discharged in stable condition.
