What happened

Three third-year students at Secundaria Técnica No. 1 'Lázaro Cárdenas' in Zacatecas took photographs of classmates, manipulated them using artificial intelligence to create pornographic images, and published the content on Instagram.

The AI-generated images used the faces and names of approximately 400 students without consent. By November 11, 2025, 80 students had filed formal complaints with the Fiscalía General de Justicia del Estado de Zacatecas.

Reported impact

Parents and affected students blocked boulevard López Mateos on November 10 to demand sanctions and the removal of school authorities, protesting that the school initially minimized the incident as a 'prank'.

The school's social worker was accused of revictimizing affected students by suggesting fault lay with students' clothing choices. Teachers subsequently suspended classes in protest after the director and social worker were removed from their positions.

Index analysis

The case involved the nonconsensual creation and distribution of sexually explicit deepfake images of minors using publicly available AI image generation technology, combined with harassment through social media.

Governance controls

Director Juan Carlos Torres Alba and social worker Magdalena de la Luz Huerta Martínez were suspended from their positions on November 11 in response to accusations they minimized the case.

The Secretaría de Educación de Zacatecas agreed to investigate the responsibilities of school administrators and the implicated students, and to determine possible civil liability for damages caused.
