What happened
On February 26, Lake Zurich High School administrators received a report that students had used artificial intelligence to generate sexually explicit, pornographic images using the likeness of other students. The school notified the Lake Zurich Police Department the same day.
Lake Zurich Police Chief Steve Husak confirmed that staff reported potential transmission of lewd material, including AI-generated content depicting the likenesses of juveniles, between students. Families of students thought to be involved in possession, generation, or distribution of content, and students whose images were included, were contacted by school administration and a police detective on February 26 and 27.
Reported impact
District 95 Superintendent Dr. Kelley Gallt stated that the district understood "the profound impact this has on the individuals involved, their families, and our learning community" and described the incident as a "fundamental violation of the values" the district works to instill in students.
