What happened

A TikTok account under the username 'Coochie Doctor' (a colloquial term for a female gynecologist) gained popularity sharing health advice. One video in which the avatar recommended pineapple and cucumber salad for digestive health and compared ingredients lemon balm and Ozempic received 3 million views and thousands of comments asking for recipes and where to buy the ingredients.

A TikTok user named Jaybon Ford, who operates a beauty brand, discovered that the doctor was an AI avatar created using the 'Captions' app. Ford found an identical avatar named 'Violet' in the Captions app, entered a script, and confirmed that the avatar could produce videos appearing to give medical advice identical to the TikTok account.

Reported impact

Thousands of users commented requesting the recipe and purchase locations for the products recommended in the videos. Users expressed shock and stated they would not have discovered the deception without Ford's exposure.

Index analysis

The AI avatar falsely represented itself as having over 10 years of experience as a gynecologist and provided medical recommendations on digestive health and other topics, misleading viewers about its nature and credentials.
