A video circulated on TikTok purporting to show a military officer from the 114th Territorial Defense Brigade claiming the unit was encircled on the Kupyansk front. The Centre for Countering Disinformation (ЦПД) confirmed the video was AI-generated deepfake created by Russian actors.
Telltale signs of AI generation included unnatural facial expressions, unnatural blinking frequency, and minimal lip movement. Russian propaganda resources actively distributed the video.
Reported impact
The Centre for Countering Disinformation stated the fabricated content was spread to demoralize Ukrainian military personnel, society, and sow fear and distrust among Ukrainians.
The 114th Territorial Defense Brigade confirmed no encirclement of its units occurred and that forces maintain full control of their section of the front.
